Outrage: Why the Fight for LGBTQ+ Equality Is Not Yet Won and What We Can Do About It

Despite being more visible in mainstream culture than ever before, LGBTQ+ people are facing unacceptable levels of prejudice and danger - from a marked increase in homophobic and transphobic violence, to the rollback of rights around the world.

In this groundbreaking, compelling and essential book, author and activist Ellen Jones sets out exactly how LGBTQ+ people continue to face discrimination, looking at education, sports, religion, marriage, mental health and much more.

In searing prose, punctuated with personal accounts from LGBTQ+ people from across the globe, Jones sets out not only the issues but also practical actions, both big and small, that all of us can take to help create a more equal society. What's more, she shines a spotlight on the amazing individuals already working hard to change things.

Whether you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community, an ally, or simply care about human rights and equality, Outrage is essential, and illuminating, reading.

'With all that is going on in the world, it is a crucial time to amplify LGBTQ+ voices. Although so much has been done in the fight for equality, this book is a much needed battle-cry for the fight we still need to show up for. Essential reading for members of the community, and our allies.'

‘A vital book to counter the streams of misinformation and disinformation on LGBTQI+ life. It was Section 28 that first politicised me and cruelty and regression is sadly in rude and cruel health. Ellen lays out clearly how much work there is still to be done and also how we can all be part of the battle for progress and inclusion, where people do not feel they must hide because of their gender. This book may well save someone’s life.’

'A book which definitively and powerfully cuts through the attempts to undermine LGBTQ+ rights (particularly those of trans+ people) over the past decade. It's also fabulously written – Jones has an impressive talent for conveying complex ideas in a way that will stay with you.' -

'Everyone must read Outrage. It’s a book for anyone who thinks marriage equality was the end of the fight for our rights… spoiler alert – it wasn’t. This is an urgent call to action for all queer people and our allies – proof that they’re coming for the rights of gays and lesbians after they are done with trans people.'

Charlie Craggs, activist, icon and author of To My Trans Sisters

A powerful text that has so much potential to change lives. I love how this book can definitely be used to help people be better allies to LGBTQIA+ people on one level. It goes one step further than other similar texts because it feels human and relatable for queer readers. It feels like it was made for us.

This is a book not just for LGBTQ+ people who feel lost in the devastatingly anti-LGBTQ+ (and particularly anti-trans) political and social climate we're living in, but for people of all backgrounds who care or are curious about what's happening but aren't sure what to do about it. A fantastic, impactful read and one which I hope will result in real-world change.
